    The primary responsibility of the Sr. Director of Regional Economic Development is to lead the implementation of the Indy Partnership’s business transaction services. These efforts include but are not limited to execution of the business attraction strategy, project management, data and research, and reporting.

    Requirements

    • Work with outside consultants, local economic development officials, investors, business leaders and Indy Partnership staff to identify targets and activities for the regional external sales effort as well as the execution of strategic priorities identified in Accelerate Indy.
    • Develop relationships with local economic development partners and maintain a working knowledge of all communities in The Indy Partnership region.
    • Have a working knowledge of local and state incentives, the real estate market, tax structure, demographics, financing programs and other pertinent data used in the sales effort
    • Work closely with Vice President to develop and maintain an effective relationship development program for national site selection consultants.
    • Oversee a sales strategy for national and international business recruitment, including but not limited to relationship development, direct mail, personal calls/visits, presentations, trade shows and events.
    • Coordinate domestic and international delegations and other group visits to the region.
    • Represent the Indy Partnership, as needed, for business development activities including but not limited to conferences, sales trips, and site visits.
    • Lead selected programs based special projects and Accelerate Indy recommendations that require cross-functional engagement with key staff across the organization, and with external stakeholders, as appropriate.
    • Assist in the development of the department’s annual work plan and budget.
    • Develop agendas and content for stakeholder meetings.
    • Other duties as assigned by Indy Chamber leadership. This might include brief assignments working closely with other departments.
    • Travel up to 20% of the time.

    Preferred Competencies

    • Track record of thinking conceptually and mastering complex subject matter quickly.
    • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans, and solutions to identified issues and problems.
    • Ability to manage multiple strategic projects in various discipline areas.
    • Proven ability to assimilate information gathered through research and consultations, to apply that information in creative and cross-cutting ways, and to synthesize appropriate strategies and responses.
    • Superior critical thinking skills, including the capacity to identify and appropriately assess and order competing interests and priorities. First rate verbal and written communication skills.
    • Track record of taking initiative in managing competing organizational and departmental priorities and working effectively under pressure when facing extremely short deadlines.
    • Ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.
    • Ability to work independently and to undertake supervisory responsibilities as needed.
    • Excellent diplomacy skills and ability to converse easily with prominent academics and significant leaders.
    • Able to prioritize, organize tasks and time, and follow up.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years or more of job-related experience. Proven ability to identify key issues and to carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution. Existing Regional relationships and/or foreign trade experience a plus.

    The Role

    As the Executive Director, you’ll be the face and heartbeat of Downtown Wabash. You’ll spearhead initiatives that continue our momentum of growth, working hand-in-hand with a dynamic board of directors. This isn’t just any board—it’s a mosaic of talent ranging from pioneering podcasters and business innovators to leaders from the historic Honeywell Foundation.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead strategic planning and execution of programs that enhance the vitality of downtown Wabash.
    • Foster relationships with local businesses, artists, and community leaders to cultivate a thriving cultural scene.
    • Champion the history and heritage of Wabash while propelling it into an exciting future.
    • Inspire and engage the community through events, festivals, and initiatives that celebrate our unique identity.

    Are You a Fit

    • Bachelor’s degree in historic preservation, nonprofit management, urban planning, economic development, or a related field.
    • A passion for placemaking, historic preservation, community development, revitalizing rural communities or nonprofit management.
    • Strong ability to build and sustain partnerships and engage stakeholders.
    • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, and financial management for nonprofits.
    • Familiarity with the Main Street Four-Point Approach (Organization, Design, Promotion, Economic Vitality) and place-based economic development.
    • Excellent communication, marketing, and community engagement skills.
    • Knowledge of economic resilience strategies for small towns or rural communities is a plus.
